You know. Tune it first today when its 35degrees. Then have to retune it tomorrow cos now its 15degrees and all the mixtures are out, then retune again the next day cos its back to 35 degrees and they are out again.

or

tune it to worst case scenario so you never have to retune again, but put up with less than perfect running for 99% of the time..

I agree with mexiegirl. EEEEUUUUWWWW.

Luuuxury! I had these Solexes on a Fiat. The tune changed when the sun hit it driving out of the workshop.

Great noise at 9,000rpm though!

And his dyno is pretty optimistic I would say.

FYI my engine is 1.8 with the biggest regrinds warren could fit (bigger then yours from memory) and ported, 1mm oversize inlet and exhaust valves and a shave and variable cam gears. Also runs itbs with an adaptronic and made 131 hp at the wheels.

A built of ford bda cosworth motor with itbs made 153ish hp on the same dyno and other full bottom end rebuilt ect mx5s made about 140.

Tuner said that in the search for power he put heaps of ignition advance in and never got any pinging just power loss.

My car also idle quite well (if a little low sometimes) no bunny hops ect and it was like that before the tune (is base map from adaptronic)

I'm not hating, just supplying you some alternative views/ info.

Properly tuned and set up Webers or Dellortos aren't anywhere near as bad as you're stating even for drivability and tuning, and power wise they crap all over the OE Mazda manifold and ECU arrangement, fullstop. The biggest issue with them is finding someone who knows what they are doing with them, as there are plenty that think they do and haven't got a clue.

20 years ago Webers or Dellortos would have been a good option, but in this day and age though, it is almost as economical to fit throttle bodies and be done with it.

+1
obvious pinging and jerking, it should never have left the workshop

What sort if ping counts per ms are u talking about. If less than 3 and random then prolly nothing to worry. But if its audible ping n jerking, then its badly tuned. Take it to another tuner who knows the ecu n tuning software.

Final dyno figures means eff all if u dont hv the base dyno figures. These can be fudged

Power curves matter much more than your final number... if its pinging and jerking your going to have a curve that resembles the outline of mt rushmore.

As a daily driver to work ect.. carburetors are just done for me. I have had too many roadside carby o/hauls and flooding from them. For the track definately...
Aparently the TPS can be fine tuned to not bunny hop, and the tune guy has agreed to bring back the timing if needed.

I tend to agree with Woz the most as it shouldn't have left the workshop pinging and bunny hoping (I forgot to add hunting up and down 300 rpm). pinging in itself ruins the engine and performance, thats a no bainer

It's quite audible and i'd say it's badly tuned, the tuner sells and fits adaptronic (thats all I can say)

At 10:1 you shouldn't even have a hint of pinging on 98, so I'd be concerned why you have. If the TPS is calibrated correctly to begin with then it shouldn't need adjusting. Once you set, you forget.

Curious as to why you added the wideband? Is it running autotune with the Adaptronic or just for you to watch?
How do the AFRs look around pinging?

I'm not going to try and suggest solutions other than a retune with someone who knows what they are doing.

I'll also suggest that no matter what the tuner wants to tell you about their abilities, if it left pinging and with messed up idle there is clearly some shortcomings in the tune. I've seen a few average tunes from someone claiming to be a specialist that did almost exactly what you are describing...
When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.

Hi there Sean

Sorry for late delay
see below thread for my frustrated but happy with Adaptronic response
viewtopic.php?f=55&t=58316

I was told to buy the wide band from MX5 mania so he could tune it easier (tune is used quite loosely)

I totally agree that it shouldn't drive away pinging for many reasons, MX5 mania should know how to tune my NA8 than anybody else in Sydney, i'm so pissed to the damage they have done to my car (clutch, d/line ect..).
