It doesn't matter if he has insurance or not. Even if people do have insurance, they'll usually not claim as it can be a pain in the arse. Profit from other jobs evens it all out.

How should I talk to him? I can't just call him and ask do you have insurance? Can you claim it? Beside he is an old stubborn style man. He has been trying to tilted the gearbox upside down just to get the pin back to the hole so he can bolt it back on. I and other two staffs want to strip the gearbox but he just keep saying thats hard and a lot of work. I really don 't know how should I talk to him and don't know how much longer does he want to try before he strip it.

The fact he said to you he doesn't want to (or would prefer not to) open up the gearbox because its hard and a lot of work really says it all doesn't it? He should be doing anything and everything to try and get it re-assembled back the way it was and in working order and your car re-assembled so you can get your car back asap. Just tell him to do it right, if he is a proper friend and a proper true reliable trustworthy mechanic he should be doing the right thing by his customers.

Re: Urgent help on 6spd gearbox please!!!!
I meant to say before, I'm not trying to come off as 'YOU MUST DO THIS'. More, because you're a friend of his, myself and I think a few other people are trying to give an outside perspective.
It's bloody hard to call a friend on something sometimes. And sometimes when it's our friend, we'll do everything we can to help them and it is hard to recognise when they're not doing the best by you. I think we've all been there.
This is one of those cases where you want to save the friendship and do right by him, but he really is mucking you round a bit. Gearbox dis/re-assembly is pretty basic stuff. If they haven't got it to 'pop back in' within an hour of giving it a red-hot go... it's highly doubtful they will. I understand he's being stubborn, but there is a time limit to this and if he is still tilting the box back and forth, he's not taking care of you. He could have had the box re-assembled in this time.
However, if you don't want to put the hard word on him, that's entirely your choice. It's a tricky situation with friendships. I honestly wish you all the best, as I think we've all had a hard situation like this.

Re: Urgent help on 6spd gearbox please!!!!
Well, finally some good news. I went there at lunch time today, and he said he got the pin secure near at the hole, basically it is right on top of the hole but upside down.
He said now they are trying to adjust it back into position and bolt it back on. I have asked Steve Lee for advice on that and he claim that is possible and could be done. But it is not easy.
My friend had decided that he would strip the gearbox on Monday if he couldn't get the pin with this method.

Does this mean he is stripping the gearbox on Monday?

I hope he could adjust the pin and place it back to position, otherwise, yes, they will strip it on Monday.

Re: Urgent help on 6spd gearbox please!!!!
Send the gearbox to Steve Lee to fix and let your friend cover the bill.
Simple and more than likely a quicker turn around time.

Mr Lee said he is busy on work on his van for moblie mechanic service, I don't want to disturb him.

Finially my friend strip the gearbox and put the pin back in place. We tested the box and it seems alright. We will test it again when we bolt the gearbox back on the car. I hope everything go right as this Wed is my birthday, I don't want to celebrate without my loveable car.

Re: Urgent help on 6spd gearbox please!!!!
Good to hear!
In my (limited) experience, provided there were no little balls or springs left over, if it works right once, it will be ok. Be sure to work the gear lever into random gears as well as running it up and down in sequence, but if there is going to be a problem I would expect it to show up virtually immediately.
PS In your excitement, don't forget to fill the gearbox ...
