oh bruce stop being a hater,i just wanted to put issert for the effect.

for outright power and price, would it better for a 13bt conversion or just throwing a turbo onto the 1.6?

13bt isnt legal.. u could do it though lol
turbo na6 with about 200kw will cost u about 15k (engine, drivetrain, cooling, handling)

13bt isnt worth it man.. unless u got a lot of money to do a full rx7 drivetrain swap then dont bother..
it is cool though

NA6 + TURBO = win.

I agree. Turbo is the second best bang for buck for an mx5 in terms of power.

The best mod you can ever do is use all the revs first! Costs you nothing! Ud be suprised how many people drive 500hp cars only to short shift it all day

500hp??

It'd be cheaper to move to the U.S & somehow get Jesse James to take on the project for an episode of Monster Garage.

Yes the threads name is 500hp but that is no longer the realistic goal if u had read previous replys.

What do u mean exactly? N/a setups go more with higher revving? I'm just trying to get to point A to point B faster haha and just have a sleek sleeper as I'm sure mx5's will do well :D

500hp

I mean that if you have an mx5 with approx 90kw and you change gears at 4000rpm. Then really you are only driving a 50-60kw mx5. You can gain all of this extra power just by holding the gears longer. Even a 300hp mx5 has very little power through the midrange. (which is where you will be on the street if you want to keep your licience)

the most fun was my 100% stock mx5 with just intake mod for some sound. Sure it wasn't that fast, but you can drive it like you stole it, without speeding everywhere.

If you want a good/fun/resonably cheap mx5 then a mild turbo/supercharger would be the way to go. As I said to you the other day. The best way to do this is buy one already done or be prepared to pay for a lot of labour in install/tuning time.

You obviously havn't dríven a good 300hp MX-5!

My car breaks into wheelspin around 4K, and feels REALLY strong from idle!

Turbochargers give their best in the mid range.

Get them to put down in writing exactly what that $10K includes. They probably plucked a figure out of the air to see if you are serious or that is a price on the labour alone and nothing else. They probably get half a dozen calls a day from people wanting to put a rotary in something so I would think option one is more likely.

This. Learn to drive what you have properly and learn to make progress safely before you think about more power. 300BHP is great fun but largely useless on the road, my car has got 250BHP and it is rare that I get to deploy full throttle. Getting from A - B or even on a country run I'm not going to be going any quicker than a stock MX5.

Seriously if your budget is $10K and you are going to do this I would ignore turbo / supercharger kits for now. Your $10K is going to be eaten very quickly just by the supporting mods....clutch, exhaust, suspension work, tyres, brakes, cooling etc...before you have even looked at buying a turbo!
Spend some money on making it handle and brake and spend the rest on trackdays. This will also give you a much better idea of the direction you want to go in with the car.

Will push 10k aside I dont really want to spend no more than 20k and if its worth staying with a turboed up mx5 or selling my car and putting 20k to buy another car? I want something fast and given the mx5 is a convertible is a plus and a negative. Story of my life mx5's just look too good low low and if possible to be a street car beating ur everyday v8's and skylines on straight and maybe even around the block would be the car I want but if I'm pursuing something not worthwhile please do tell.

Cheers to all the miatanics!

You won't need 300hp to beat an everyday V8 though..

You could though look into getting a Bullet Roadster if you must. But if you wreck one of them by doing something stupid or illegal then we'll have to look down on you..
