Did about 3 hours last night with the help of 2 mates and the missus.

Radiator is out, and 90% of the stuff holding the motor in is disconnected/removed, just needs the engine/tranny mounts & tail shaft + exhaust removing, so motor should be out tommorow.

had a slight issue with breaking the key, and not being able to find the other one, but if you go to a frendly locksmith with the VIN, they can make you a new one (thank god!)

Piccys and such to come when i get them off the camera

i have a mate that dose porting and polishing. done my head recently for around 500 and that included dissassembly. so more or less take head off give to him get it back in bits but clean and ported and flowed.
havent got my motor together yet so cant comment on power gains but for 500 done properly on a flow bench cant really go wrong.

also see if your keen and you can find an nb8a head as they have the better port angle rather than in the 30s its up in the 50s or something can pick one up for around 700

im doing a similar thing at the moment but slightly more on the cheap as i bought a rebuild kit from hamish parts are mostly supertech which apear to be a cheaper brand.. but will see how it all comes along.

i broke the key on my crank shaft awhile back which flogged out the keyway on the crank so.. new crank shaft.

Yeah, I would go NB head, but I already have cams and ECU (plug and play) to suit NA :<

Porting is an interesting point, will think on that.

How much is a new (or used) crank worth? (in case mine is rooted.)

Maybe you could test these guys out for me. :-)

They are seriously, seriously cheap and the component manufacturers all look good.

Ok, engine is now sitting in its component parts, all neatly labeled and bagged :P

I also have a rod bearing here that looks like its been wrapped in tinfoil and hit with a hammer, cylinder no. 1 as suspected.

Crank looks fine, but will require further inspection i guess.

Big pile of photos to come the evening :>

Wow you arent wasting any time on this at all. One thing I might reccommend, is get the crank professionally checked for cracks etc. U dont wanna put the engine together only to find the crank is stuffed and you've wasted a good few hours work. Interesting hearing about the problems with the coolant though...
