Do you have it setup on a laptop or hand controller?

Do you have the timing set correctly? Again if you have a handset I can run you through the process of setting it within the microtech.

ok my handcontroller will be here tomorrow, what test can i run sean or shall i wait till i have some basic knowledge of the controller first?

THere is a little known "test mode" for tehse ECU's to make it fire injectors and spark while teh car is turned off.

I'll email you some details.

haha, its far worse for me. im not bad with my hands and i like a challenge but with this (ecu) i have no idea so its a little fustrating for me...hence me not touching it for a week. dont feel its all up to you sean as im trying to find and understand the ecu through the net. i really did think the hand contoller would come with some basic instructions.
just another hurdle i guess

just made a little progress, found out how to test the ecu for faults...wohooo

is this the test you were going to give me sean.....if not i will welcome any others

Go to the SETUP SCREEN (screen 31 from memory)
Go across to the right where you will see Config=4cyl/R if its a 4 cyl or Rotary. It will say 6cyl obviously if on a 6cyl motor etc here.

Press the Program (P) or Mode button to put you into Program Mode.

Now bring that Number of Cyls down to 0 so it now says
Config=0cyl

It will now start to display Test On flashing in the bottom of the screen.

The Microtech will fire all the ignition outputs and fire off all the injector outputs as if the car was running at about 1800rpm. It will cycle the AUX outputs on and off. It will NOT run the fuel pump whilst in this mode.

This is a great way to test all your outputs.

This test , in Effect gets the ECU to generate its own Crank Angle Sensor signal. If you have got all your outputs working normally in this test mode, but when cranking the car you are missing one or all outputs, its most likely you have got an issue with :-

1:- Crank angle sensor wiring incorrect (most common)
2:- Faulty Crank Angle Sensor
3:- Incorrect configuration in the ECU for the application (2nd Most common)
4:- Another issue like voltage drop on cranking or bent trigger wheel for cam angle sensor or something else mechanical.

yep test went well, it fails to tell me how to stop it from running in test mode and yes it flashes even more and i dont understand it. another $200 wasted on my project :)

been back out in the shed, in test mod it backfired all by itself. now im thinking it must be getting fuel because before test mode i'd turn it over to see by luck it would start. when in test mode it must be getting spark as it must detonate the left over fuel. so this brings me to either the cas wiring or maybe the injector settings? im going to go change the injectors to see if it will start on the stock injectors. i know i can change it to my 460 injectors through the controller but i cant find out how to do that. i dont want to run test mode anymore. i cant seem to get the results of test mode. it didnt sound like a normal backfire either. more like a mini explosion which i dont want to do again

Looking around for you I found this on a US Mazda forum. Might help???

\"maybe it's not reading rpm? therefore no spark nor fuel. the car will crank all day long as that's not a MicroTech thing, but if there's no rpm reading nothing is going to happen.\"
