Mazda along with other car makers set the engineering requirements and then get their selected sources to meet the spec and supply the product. I dont see how Toyota would refuse to replace a gearbox which is substantially flawed. Toyota backs the warranty.

I drove Jackson to Warwick to pick up his FT86 from Toyota because they were hard to get initially so I was very familiar with his problems with the car and Toyota:

Regarding the ND's manual 6-speed, see #3 in this article: https://www.carthrottle.com/post/7-fascinating-technical-facts-about-the-nd-mazda-mx5/
- unfortunately this gearbox also has issues :(

In previous posts touching on this where I got some great info from mrs B and The American on just how much the SE 6 speed can handle, there is a local option, Neat Gearboxes in Melrose Park SA, that do full rebuilds ($1850 for a 5 speed) as well as shotpeening internals to add strength- just another option :DIY:

MiataRoadster sell a delrin shifter tip bush ,about $30 delivered. These dramatically improve the gear change in the 6 speed. Especially 2nd to third. Best $30 I have spent,
Cheers
