Not necessarily, if the pump has been replaced previously there is a small amount of hose used to connect the new pump motor inside the fuel tank.

Hey guys yes That's exactly what's happened had a split in hose was getting fuel to the rail but when I put my thumb over it it stopped the flow.

Coote, was the split hose inside the tank or outside? Just may help others knowing the exact location.
