Given the purpose of the device I'd be inclined to just a properly functioning replacement.

You may get it working well enough for a while to pass a RWC but it needs to be actually able to do the job it's designed for, your life may depend on it......

Yeh good point. I will check with the guys if it needs replacing. It might be worth it for the safety i get off it.

Having said that, I was able to fix it up. It's pretty cool how the inside of the seatbelt works. It seems to come out smoothly now, and if pulled at the wrong angle/too quickly (ie - counterweight is moving), it stops and doesn't release as it should.
