Will you be doing the work yourself or getting someone else to?

I haven't seen under the NC (or even in an engine bay :oops:), or had a look at the auto box vs manual box but...

Have you considered if you'll need to modify the floorpan/tunnel to fit? Maybe, maybe not. Just throwing it out for consideration.

This is where you'll start to get into big bucks for it if you're getting someone else to do the work. Labour costs.

If you really want to do it though, good luck with it. Write a thread up when you're done, or a progress thread. I for one would be keen to read it.

Also you need to be a total masochist to do gearbox in/out jobs voluntarily.


Or really, really stupid. I've done a couple of engine/ gearbox swaps for free and I prefer to think of it as stupidity on my behalf, as my co-workers do. :) :lol:

It would be FAR cheaper and WAYLESS trouble to just trade up to a white NC3. I'm sure you could do a great deal as one of our Club members did on their white manual.

We’ve done the conversion. As to if it’s easy or straightforward – that depends on your level of experience.

Off the top of my head you will need the following –

Manual gearbox
Tailshaft
Pedal box
Clutch pedal
Clutch lines
Clutch asy
Flywheel
Slave cylinder
Master cylinder reservoir
Steering wheel or at least the rear cover section
Rubber sealing boots for gearstick
Gearstick
Gearboot
Dash cluster
ECU
Key

As the AT uses its own ECU, you can use the std wiring harness and just bypass the AT bits. You’ll also need to close circuit the inhibitor switch.

Would I do it on a road car – No. That said it’s your car so good luck to you and your project.

Appreciate all the info guys, as for the car, still working out all my kinks, as to what I want to do and such, i have just rebuilt the wheels and want to go lower as impractical as it is. (love the slammed look)

Just chucked on the 3 piece wheels I have been rebuilding so its slowly coming to shape.

Pics can be found on the NC wheel thread if you guys are interested, pretty happy with the result.
