I got that wrong... I actually ordered the Xtreme HD kit and should have it this week. Still not sure if I will be installing myself or asking for MX5 Plus to do it... I guess either way I'll be seeing them as I'm either dropping off the car, or just picking up a 2nd hand gear box... and probably some main seals etc.

What should I do with the flywheel? Machine it or just attack it with some emery cloth? Where do you buy emery cloth?

Depends on condition of the flywheel - I tend to go with a few dollars for machining if it even close to needs it - cheap i9nsurance against pulling it all apart again.

Xtreme clutch is a reasonable bit of gear - much more reliable than the exedy in my humble opinion...

Killed a couple of the exedy HD ones, didn't seem so HD to me...
When results speak for themselves - don't interrupt.

It can be done without a hoist, but it is an absolute b*tch of a job!

They are expensive - but you get what you pay for.

You will not need a 6 pad, 4 pad or button clutch running 11psi.

Have you considered moving to a 1.8L flywheel and clutch combo? Might be a good time to upgrade.

Got a quote for Xtreme HD kit -

1.6 $260

1.8 $437

Big difference in price, is the 1.8 clutch worth it in the long run? will also have a lightened flywheel to go with it.

Clamping force on the 1.6 is 640kg and 1.8 is 700kg.

Car is na6 stock motor mildly boosted with td04.

always always get the flywheel machined. i did my extreme HD clutch on a sunday and really needed the car the next day so attacked the flywheel as much as possible and got it all assembled only to find out the gears were not going in without a lot of force. had to bed the clutch in with a lot of hard launches before it settled down and even now after 1000ks getting into 1st is a pain. This summer i'll redo everything because i sat in a stock car the other day and the gearchanges were so much smoother.

Gslender,

I have/had Exeedy sports tuff on my NA6 flywheel.

Whilst it held up ok to my supercharged B6 I found it was being cooked when launched hard at hill climbs and I wasn't running as much boost as you do.

My new clutch is a light chromoly BP flywheel from MX5plus + upgraded Exeedy clutch from NPC clutches. (Nicks Performance Clutches) My engine builds revs extremely quickly.

Clutch plate is off a TX3 turbo and I've had no slipping with the new clutch. Rated up to 800 odd kw but feels stock to the foot.

I have a BP stock flywheel and a B6 flywheel with the Exeedy sports tuff, you're welcome to have them and take them to NPC for a rebuild/upgrade.

Shoot me an email.

EDIT: I see you've bought a clutch. Get the flywheel machined. It's a pain to do the gearbox twice if you don't have to.

I'm using a Exedy disc with a modified pressure plate (Direct Clutch at Albion) and TODA 1.6 flywheel:

As I am still running in the engine I haven't gone past 10psi but it has held up nicely so far. Pedal modulation is great and with this flywheel it has the same 'liveliness' as the 1600.

I'm not familiar with the clamping forces but Jason at MX-5 Plus know the details.
