One could argue that the noise starts at the engine so anything added or deleted will vary the sound. I also imagine that adding a resonator is relatively inexpensive and whatever you do has some level of experimentation.

Morlock, Wivvix knows that whatever he chooses has some experimental part, however going for a stock exhaust is nearly certain to quieten the sound by a lot.
A resonator may only do it slightly.
I expect the cost of a used stock muffler would be pretty similar to the cost of a new resonator and the labour required to fit it.
even cheaper when you consider that if the stock exhaust is what Wivvix wants he can recoup some of the costs by selling the current loud exhaust.

Hey Wivvix,
The muffler you need is 2 1/4 not 2 inch. The best muffler you can get is from Town & Country Exhausts in Geelong, Vic. It's a 2 1/4 SS straight through that sounds awesome and doesn't drone ! They have MX5 exhausts down to a fine art. Give them a call, I'm sure they you could organize to ship a muffler across to you. Their number is (03) 5223 1350.
regards,

Isn't the stock muffler 2? Almost everything i've read for the NA says that 2in is sufficient.
My "criteria" for a muffler is that it should sound nice (note isn't throaty or "deep"), not be loud (obtrusive on ears), or drone.
Mind you my point of comparison is a 14x9x4 Magnaflow, which is about twice as noisy as the stock muffler.
Are there any sound clips of naturally aspirated NA's running this 2 1/4 SS muffler you refer to?
Cheers
