Yeah, spend the grand on a stash, sell it, then buy the wheels and the diff

Ps, don't do this

you're right. I do have a torsen fitted. If I was to do it again I'd be fitting a Kaaz or something more aggressive than the current torsen.

OK maybe bad choice of words on my behalf. Call it whatever you like plenty of sideways action can be had with bad tyres & wet roads with a Torsen locking diff. To my knowledge none of my wheels have ever left the ground in a road situation.

For racing I completely agree. Torsen is too soft. with spirited mountain driving Torsens are Fine & make a fantastic mod. which I feel should be the minimum on any MX5 from the factory.

what you said. I have found that through slow corners on the road the car feels much friendlier. Which is what was holding my lap times down (or up as it is) at qr so I should see a great improvement over the stock open diff. I did get the feeling that the fast corners may be a bit hairy so i spose i was right based on your experience. I may have to dial in some understeer to be safe on the track.

Sasso,
Viscous diffs tend to be be less consistent than Torsens, which are less consistent than clutch pack diffs.
A viscous diff works on the viscosity of the fluid limiting slip. As the oil gets old the viscosity changes and the diff starts to behave differently. Preference depends a lot on driving style but most people prefer Torsen, or clutch pack LSDs for combined street/track work. For the ultimate in consistency for a track only car a spool is the answer.
IMO open < viscous < Torsen < clutch pack. Spools are awesome but only if your car does not see street duties.

Boris,
My torsen was the same, always stepped to the right in straight line acceleration on a level road. I was also quite dissapointed with the torsens performance on the track, which is something I have found in previous cars as well. I will be upgrading to a Kaaz Clutch pack in the very near future.
