Most 1.6's I've dríven have had transmission noise on deceleration to some extent. You can probably get used to it. Nothing's going to explode or anything.

Thanks for the link ben i have actually been reading that thread all day! my new car > work ;) . mines exactly like you said, \"Mine only occurs after 15 minutes of driving once the car is warmed up and at around 3000 RPM on deceleration when engine breaking.\" accept mine accours at lower revs (2.2k-2.5). But reading that other thread it seems that it varies alot depending on car. Sorry for being noob but i presume engine break is when u shift back a gear to slow down instead of using your brakes then selecting the apropriate gear eg from 4th 2 second rather than going to third then second. My earlier comment about the noise when accelerating goes after the firsrt 2min of driving so it is probibly me being impatient and not letting the car warm up enough. I have to assume my car is totally stock so at 174,000 k's things would be wearing out. I plan to try all the things on adamjp's list but i think what u said covers it. the strange thing is even putting on a tiny bit of accelerator stops the noise completly. i will try the clutch trick and also arround courners etc
ill post my results tomorrow.
OH! also is road speed the speed my car is traveling at the time? as oposed to engine speed thats the revs? silly question probibly
. hopfully i can pin it down to the problem thats just annoying and not destroying my car !
