Well last friday the thought i had too good of a day and decided not to start on me. Tried the flood clear thing and that didnt work, then i tried jumping ten and ground hopeing that would help but no dice. Then the battery ran out.

Came back with a mate to jump the car and that didnt work no matter how many times i kicked it over with or without the flood clear start. I ended up employing the help of a bunch of 15yr old kids that were standing around looking to help push start the car.
This worked but sounded like the car was running on 1 or 2 cylinders!! After a bit of revving the plugs seemed to clear up and she ran normally.

The kids asked me to do a burnout so i couldnt let them down - but thats another story - it acctually won me the bunrout award at the chrismas party the next day  :P :P and could possibly get me in trouble today heheheh - oh well

So i've changed the coil pack and regapped the plugs (as i've noticed a missfire when cruising) so i'm hopeing this will help - i'll change the water temp sensor next weekend.

Ok bringing an old topic back up, i have changed the water temp sonsor and it hasn't fixed the start up problem. As soon as the key hits the \"on\" position i get some kind of spark and you can hear the engine crank a little. After that the car wont start unless i push start it.

Any ideas?

I may take a look at the ignition barrel today see if any thing is loose, or i wonder if the pressure regulator is on its way out - although this wouldnt explain why when i turn the key very slowly, most of the time it starts no problems. (ie keep it in \"ACC\" for a while then turn it to \"on\" and then start it right away if there is no pre-crank)

Cheers
Dave

Ok its definately still flooding the engine, cause dad and i managed to start it by disconnecting the injectors - and the car still ran for another 5-10 sec.

One thing that is weird is that the fuel pump just keeps pumping for as long as i keep it in the \"ON\" position. ie it doesnt tunr off once the pressure has built up. but i have noticed that sometimes after i have been driving and i turn the car off then come back to start it the fuel pump wont be turning. Could this be a faulty pressure regulator?

And i just had the wide band up the car bum and found that when the car misfires it runs lean for a second - this is pretty weird as i though it would be rich due to the spark not fireing??

Any help would be muchly appriciated.

Dave

Could it be the circuit opening relay?

It provides the power source to keep the fuel pump running during the starting phase until the airflow signal from the AFM kicks in.

Try keeping the FP and GND terminals in the diagnosis box bridged and see if the car starts OK. If it starts OK, the problem could be that the signal from the AFM is not getting through (light green wire) to the Circuit Opening Relay. If it still won't start, it could be the relay itself or the ignition switch.

I think the relay is under the dash on the driver's side. Wire colours should be:

white/red (power in from main relay)
violet (starting signal)
black (earth)
light green (AFM signal)
black/red (power to fuel pump)

Just re-reading all your posts......this sounds like the ignition switch is stuffed Dave.
