Nulon One Coolant

Reds are organic and contain no glycol.
They are required in my Alfa,
I use and have always used Castrol Radicool concentrate in all my other cars till the Alfa came along.

Thread revival. I bought Nulon long life (8 year) blue pre-mix today on sale at SCA. 10 Litres for $50.32. I'll get 15 litres of demineralised water to flush the system and do the job in the next month or so.

I'm thinking next coolant change going to Evans Waterless Coolant. Yes will be expensive but it's meant to last the life of the engine not needing to be changed out due to it's own age.

Plus the other benefits of raised boiling point, no corrosion/erosion/electrolysis, no pressure (hoses last longer) & no freezing. Plus the party trick of being able to remove radiator cap & not be covered in boiling liquid or steam (probably don't actually try it though)

BIG RE-THINK

I have been agonising all weekend over this blue, green, yellow issue so, after much research on the interweb and a full brain, I called Nulon technical this morning. Here is the good info:

Nulon green long life https://www.nulon.com.au/images/files/productbulletins/PB-LL.pdf is definitely the FL22 equivalent and meets Mazda's specifications.

It is a HOAT (hybrid organic acid/additive technology) product.

It does not contain 2-EHA which can play havoc with silicone seals.

Yes, it does have a very low percentage of silicate but, this will not cause issues such as silicate dropout. Mazda Japan use a phosphated hybrid in FL22 because the water in Japan has a very high silicate content. Thus Mazda warn that the coolant must not contain silicate as that would compound issues...in Japan. On the other hand, Australian water does not have this issue so, a low silicate hybrid is fine.

Nulon does not recommend their blue long life for Mazdas because it is different hybrid technology adopted by certain other Japanese and European manufacturers.

Nulon One is OK and is what they call global hybrid technology. Downside is it is more expensive than green LL.

The reason the pre-mix versions of Nulon coolant have a shorter advertised life than the concentrate is that the pre-mix is 33%, whereas the concentrate is supposed to be mixed at 50% to achieve the higher protection period.

Took the blue pre-mix back today for a refund and got some green long life concentrate.

Coolant replaced after three flushes with demineralised water. Waiting for it to cool off.

Both the SP23 and Escape, both MZR 2.3L got Nulon green concentrate last fills. Used 50/50 blend, had no issues for 18 months/20,000km. I also used it in the old Astina and got pushed hard without issues. Although I never flushed the systems, just raised the rear axles to pour out the most I could.

Yep, I'll be using it in the GH Mazda6 when it becomes due next year and in our old BJ11 Astina, now in my daughter's possession, but which I still get to look after.
