2006 NC Auto Panel gear position lights

Greetings My NC dashboard auto transmission light that shows the transmission is selected to manual has failed. All the other position lights work as does the numeric gear indicator.
I'm told the complete circuit board assembly has to be replaced to fix and it's just not worth that sort of expense or trouble.
Has anyone had occasion to open the dash in this area and could they give me some idea of whether or not it would be possible to just replace what I think is probably a failed LED?
Any info you have would be appreciated, I know it's a minor inconvenience but it annoys me.
