I've messed about with both vintage bikes and old Datsuns for many years and have used quite a few shops.

Jack Jones at Lambton was my preferred shop years ago (never had an issue), then moved to a mob next to ISP at Islington based on price and convenience which gave good service but closed down a few years back, got one job done at Teterins (never again......) and most recently have gone back to Jack Jones.

A mate raves about Price Race Engines, although I have personally never used them.

Got my block bored/honed by Pryce Engines over at Cardiff a few months ago.
Did a good job, reasonably priced.

I've also heard good things about Pryce.
Doctor Mak at East Maitland has bored & honed a block for me & fitted pistons to rods - did a good job.

I used Jack Jones once, when he was alive. He died a few years ago. The building is gone now too. It has been a while since your "recent" visit to Jack.

"Recent" would have been between 2011 and 2013 (based on which gearbox I ran at which Datsun nationals - Jack did the machining on the bellhousing for the 6 speed conversion I first ran in 2013).

Looks like I'll be looking for a machinist as well, that's the 3rd one gone that I've used in the past (Robertson Bros, one at Islington and now Jack).

The "one at Islington" is now run by the guy with the supercharged XY Flacon that ran at King Edward park hill climb each year. What's his name, ummmm, Brett Thomas. Yeah, Thomas Jaguar and Mechanical. He bought much of the machinery of the original business (whose name I can't remember, but a friend of mine worked there about 25 years ago) and left it in place, although I don't know exactly what he kept and what he does, but his business is in the same location.

I now realise I haven't used Jack Jones since ~2002. I miss Robertson brothers too. Suddenly I feel old.

The "one at Islington" was Better Spares. Wish they were still around, because they were 'better'
