Anyone happen to know the actual name / part number for the M20 stud that the oil filter screws on to?

Really, relly hard to tell from the parts catalogue, but it looks like Mazda part no B630-10-319 "Joint". Listed in 1030 Cylinder Block in http://www.miata.net/garage/90-99Parts/ ... ENGINE.pdf

careful where you get them from if getting a used one. as they are different lengths depending on what engine it came from. some are longer for water to oil coolers. some are shorter for smaller filters.

I'm putting on a sandwich plate for an oil cooler which has its own threaded nut. I did find a shorter one but it listed it as NA 90 - 94. I'll pull one out of my 1.6 and see if it fits. Can they go in to far?
