NB8A stall on first crank but will start on 2nd crank

Postby ckwan028 » Mon Mar 10, 2014 7:49 pm

Hi All,

I had just installed x-force header, 200cell Cat and hot dog to my car.
At first my car wont idle properly.
I had adjusted the idle with the "TEN + GND" method, and it will idle @ 850rpm now.
However, my car will always stall on first crank (the car will start but stall after 1 or 2 second), and when i crank it again it will start as normal.
It doesnt matter if the engine is cold or hot.
I had dríven 300+ km since I installed the goodies.
The car run fine.

Any suggestion are welcome.

Thanks in advance
Milky

Hi.
Turn the ignition on and wait 10 seconds then start it. If it now runs without stalling it could be a weak fuel pump or your fuel filter needs replacing.

I'd suggest just replacing it anyway.

They should be replaced every so often, but most people forget (I think the book says 100,000km maybe?)

They're about $50 from Mazda.

Just be careful with the hose clips when removing it, the new filter does NOT come with replacements. (NB's use a quick release clip rather than the normal... and better.... NA system of hose and worm clamp)

Also make sure you have something handy to clamp off the fuel line from the tank.

OK.. took my car to my mechanic (just opposite my home).
He used a scanner to scan for fault code and it turn out to be the mass air flow sensor..
Cleared the code, when for a drive and the come back, same code come back.
Took out the Sensor and have a look.
oh no, it is broken..
The wire in the middle is no longer there....

Time for a new sensor..

BTW, should I get those mass air flow sensor from ebay? They are only $115 shipped

Thanks

if you source on price then thats short sighted. Ebay means nothing other than on aniline market and a product may be poor to average quality- you take a punt. Mechanics generally buy products that they know last pretty well- your mechanic seems to have id'd the fault - ask him for an opinion perhaps.
