NA8 Start Up Procedure

Postby myredmx5 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 10:07 pm

My NA8 won't start first time.

Is the fuel pump supposed to pump when the key is switched on as mine doesn't but does on the second and subsequent times.

What do I need to check?

This started the same way:
viewtopic.php?f=55&t=46425

Also, failing 'Fuel Inj' relay in engine bay fuse box can have a similar affect.

Is the fuel pump supposed to pump when the key is switched on before engaging the starter motor?

Hi.
Yes as soon as you turn the ignition on the pump starts to pressurise the fuel rail.

As Ralt says, but it won't necessarily be audible - it isn't on my NA8, which hasn't been changed from factory in that area.

Btw, thought you were indicating above it was audible on second & subsequent ignition turns.

Thanks 'ralt'. What do I need to look at to fix this?

Here's a fresh explanation.

Switch ignition key on = no sound from pump = try to start = does not fire within 5 seconds = switch ignition on = can hear the pump = try to start = does not within 5 seconds.

I go through this procedure several times and then it fires up.

Are there any items I should check. I have removed the pump and replaced the filter and there appears to be no blockages at those points.

What about checking if the so called 'black wire' issue is present as per the above link, ie: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=46425

It's also possible there's an intermittent issue with the fuel pump relay under the dash on the driver side.

Might also be an issue with ECU - Conti in Darwin had an onging issue with his NA8 Clubman, which he finally identified as ECU components: viewtopic.php?f=73&t=41675&p=535710#p535710

Also worth checking all earth points.
