I give up, I give up, btw, blue printing is to do with tolerances, and balancing is to do with..........!!!!!!! balance. quite simple really.

not a problem fatty, we all tend to have more knowledge in our chosen field, A day you don't learn something new is a day you have been listening with your mouth ,not your ears.

Did that make much of a difference? Is it a simple swap over with all the provisions for the two extra pipes that connect into the cross pipe?

I think so, but I didn't dyno it before & after so I can't say for sure. I went for an NB8 crosspipe with the helmhlotz resonator in the middle. I mention this as I've read that some NB8s, perhaps the NB8B, didn't have the resonator. Apart from feeling as though there is more torque there's a more throaty intake sound. I also have a MX5 Mania CAI which was fitted prior to switching crosspipes. The rationale was that the 90 degree bend in the NA8 crosspipe that sits just above the top radiator hose is significantly compressed in comparison to the rest of the crosspipe. This isn't the case with the NB8 crosspipe.

It's not a direct swap, but it's also not hard to work around. As you say you have two pipes which fit to the NA8 crosspipe & therefore two pipe fittings. On the NB8 crosspipe there's only one pipe fitting, so you have to merge the two pipes into one, or put a filter on the cam cover vent & then just connect the TB IAC pipe to the crosspipe.

Hi all,
Encouraged by 93_Clubmans advice I'm about to fit a NB8A crosspipe [no resonator] onto my NA8. A question regarding merging the 2 pipes into one...the TB IAC input is ~18mm dia. Is it OK to reduce it down to the ~10mm dia of the spigot out of the crosspipe? ie Is a 10mm bore large enough feed for the IAC?

I'm still running mine like that, & have since 2006, with no issues.

Had one of these on an NB8A once. It was so loud I had to use less throttle when certain people were in the passenger seat to avoid scaring them. When the passenger seat was removed to make room for the Golden Retriever he and I used to have an absolute blast. Alfie (the GR) told me he was sure it was worth 20kW.
UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Found a surprisingly similar alternative for those who perhaps want a more stock looking version & maybe cheaper replacement filter elements(?). I saw this today at a you pick apart style auto wrecker in an early 90's Hynundai S-Coupe, also saw the same thing in a similar era Excel too. Has a different looking AFM (if that is what it is in there) that's looks to be easily removed, the plug hole would need to be covered up though. Looks like Hyundai might of been doing something right.

Here's my DIY intake that I used to have again for comparison since the first photo got deleted after all these years & I can't edit the original post on page 1 with it.
