how loud is an se with muffler removed?
I'm starting to modify my se to be able to turn the boost up, its going to be a slow process due to apprentice wages . Was reading on here a while ago that some one was saying with the muffler removed they were louder but not super loud. So was thinking about welding up a bit of pipe to delete the muffler to improve the exhaust note and make it sound more like a turbo car:D. does any one happen to have any experience with playing around exhausts on the se or even video clips of what I'm asking?

Re: how loud is an se with muffler removed?
I've just welded up a dodgy exit dump pipe, as someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse for my SE muffler.
The car is louder but (surprisingly) not that much louder.
It has a nice burble and it crackles and pops on gearshifts.
It also sounds quite splendid when hitting the rev-limiter....
Just take your muffler off (5 minute job, 2 nuts and the exhaust hangers-easy!) and go for a (short) drive.
There is anecdotal evidence to suggest that just having the pipe exit withOUT the muffler may melt/disfigure the rear bumper.
The fact that the SE sans muffler is still relatively quiet just proves how restrictive the stock catalytic convertor and exhaust pipe work is (as there is no resonator on my SE system).
As a comparison, on my 180sx, I had a high flow cat, 3" zorst, big ass wog cannon and it was bloody (read stupidly) loud.

Most of my mates drive modified skylines and sills so I know what loud is the plan is to get the exhaust bit welded up and then try it. Knowing me if I try it with out the rest of it ready to go I'l want to leave it off aha

Silly question.. what size is the stock exhaust? And what sort of flange do I need. As the muffler has some value to it I dont want to be be hacking it up.

I can vouch for the quite splendidityness FFG's makes when hitting redline. Its pretty cool. Should do a drive-by video of it..

SE with NitroDann exhaust (thanks Rich)
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I seem to remember someone had something like this already made up when they bought their SE but took it off.
