A/C Dye

Postby trader » Fri Jan 03, 2014 10:56 pm

Does anyone know what colour this dye is? Image
I thought I had a leaking water pump but now I'm not so sure. leak hole on water pump is clean and was replaced about 5000 k's ago.Image

The car has a puddle size twenty cents every second day and it sure looks like coolant but no idea where its coming from. Just appears between the sump bolts and then drops down onto P/S piping. You can see there is no leakage onto the crank pulley at left.Image
May be it is dye but I dont know where its coming from if it is. No sign of leaks around water pump gasket but in the end may have to pull the pump out and check gaskets (they were replaced along with the pump).

Any ideas?

It's normally fluorescent green, ideally check with an UV/Black light

if you have a black light check it then, it looks like coolant from the pictures there.

As the AC system is under pressure, the dye shouldnt drip like that, it will be more of a mist of the AC system is leaking.

Is the AC workign as it should?

I'm going to give it a good clean, put it back together and see if I can see where its coming from. Only leaks at night and not enough to top up so may have to wait until it gets worse. AC works fine so now thinking its coolant..

Turned out to be the inlet water pump gasket so no big dramas after all!
