6 speed gearbox diagram

Postby lawpar » Tue Sep 15, 2009 8:33 pm

Hi
Does anyone know where I could find a diagram of a 6 speed NB gearbox? I want to change the oil but although I had no problems with my old NA, I'm not so sure about the location of the filler and drain plugs on the 6 speed box. From reading posts on the various forums, I gather there are disastrous consequences if the wrong bolts are undone.
regards, Colin

There are 2.5 different types of 6 speed gearboxes used in the NB. The one used in the 10AE is a derivative of the 5 speed NB8A 'box with a seperate turret that needs to have oil in it. The NB8B+ gearbox uses a turret that doesn't need oil, the SE uses a modified version of the NB8B+ gearbox. The fill plugs are on the same side on all gearboxes, the side closest to the exhaust. Do not undo anything on the drivers side of the gearbox and you should be ok.

Just a tip, it's a good idea to make sure you can undo the fill plug before draining the oil. If you have drained the gearbox oil in the NB8B+ box and cant get the fill plug undone it's possible to fill the box through the turret. This isn't possibly in the 10AE 'box.

Thanks for the advice. I know this is a stupid question but how do I find out which type of 6 speed box my car has. It's a 2002 manufactured in April.

I know this is an old thread, however for the benefit of those finding this page through Google or the search function;

The NB8A 6 speed box in the10AE and other limited edition models does NOT have a separate turret that needs oil. The turret is fed from the box itself, and the oil can actually be added through the turret to fill the box.

How will you know when the box is full though? You need to remove the fill bolt also

I just put in the amount that the owners manual said was required.
