Since I bought my NB, I noticed that sometimes when cornering hard around left-hand bends, the car cuts out for a few seconds.
It wasn't long before I realised that this only happens with half a tank of fuel or less in the car, and gets worse depending on how low the fuel gauge is.
Last week I took the fuel pump out and noticed that the "pick-up sock" on the end of the pump was tiny, about an inch long and about 1/2 an inch wide. It didn't look right and so I ordered a new Altrex-brand sock from Mitamecca on Ebay. It came on Friday and was probably closer to four inches long and an inch wide. I fit it, and when I put the fuel pump back into the tank I could feel that the sock actually touched the bottom of the tank, whereas the old one did not.
I took the car for a drive and there was absolutely no cutting out on corners, even with the fuel quite low.
I am unsure as to whether a new fuel pump has been fit at some point and the wrong size sock has been used or whether they come like this from factory but if you experience this issue, it is likely a $20 fix.
Cheers

Re: NB Cuts out around left hand corners - Solved
Incorrect sock, or incorrect sock fitting is very common, it is the ONLY reason this happens.
Factory sock with correct fitment leaves under a litre in the tank before surge is even possible.

Thanks for confirming this Dann. At least it is a cheap and easy fix

Thank you so much for posting this. My car does exactly the same thing. I thought I needed a surge tank so off I went to get a quote. Would you believe the quote came in at $1300. So I thank you 1280 times.

PS: I just ordered the sock from the same people. Hopefully I have the same success as you did.

No problem John. Glad to hear that the post helped someone. Let us know how you go once the sock arrives. $1300 is a lot of money!

$1300 is a lot of money especially when you can do the same thing for $500. Anyway I'm glad I balked at the quote and found your post.
Was it an easy install. Any tips on how to do it or did you have to resort to a mechanic to do the job.
Cheers

Re: NB Cuts out around left hand corners - Solved
I am mechanically-challenged (but learning every day) and found it very easy.
1. Remove the windblocker if you have one.
2. Remove the circular plastic trim clips that are holding the rear shelf carpet down. I bought a $6 supercheap removal tool for this as they are quite hard to remove.
3. Remove the big metal plate which has now been uncovered. This will reveal two further metal plates that have pipes and whatnot running into them.
4. The bigger plate will have 4 lines protruding out that have little pinch-type attachers, all four of these need to be removed.
5. Pull the bigger plate up slowly and remove it from the vehicle being careful not to drop fuel everywhere
6. Remove the sock from the bottom of the fuel pump and replace.
It is fairly self-explanatory once you start to do it. Probably took me around 20 minutes
