Rear main seal questions

Postby mrpham » Tue Oct 29, 2013 10:28 pm

Hey all.

Just doing my rear main seal, took out the old one and noticed that it had left a groove on the crank. I've been told that this is not uncommon, and all I need to do is install the seal in a different location.

How far can I push the rear main seal in? Or should I have it sticking out 1mm?

Thanks!

I've always been lead to believe it should be flush. Don't know for sure though.

Thanks mate.

I've always installed rear mains flush to the edge too, but I don't know if I can in this case because of the groove worn into my crank from the previous seal. I feel that I should install the new seal in a different position so that it doesn't sit on the groove. Just not sure how deep I can install the new seal or just have it sticking out 1-2mm.

You need a Speedi Sleeve. Some info here http://www.industrialbearings.com.au/up ... 271826.pdf
They're available at most bearing retailers for not much money.
