how good are the MX5 engines?

wow thats bloody impressive. although I shouldnt be surprised by that, its japanese after all haha just goes to show maintenance is the key to the life span.
which do you prefer driving wise, your old ns or your nb?

I think i prefer the NB - but of course i have a sentimental spot for my NA. My drive now is highly modified so a bit hard to compare the two,i really enjoy the bags of torque with my present set of wheels so a little bit difficult in a side by side comparison.

The 1.8l ba astina was a pretty sweet handling car. And the engines shared with the mx5 were used in the sporty models. Not to be confused with the gutless base modela.

There is a reason the na mx5 motors are so easy to turbo....

My 2001 NB8B has 250000km on it (it got to 245000km 3 years ago, but I bought another car as a daily driver so it doesn't get dríven as much any more)

It has done hundreds of laps around wakefield with nothing but regular servicing. The engine itself is still rock solid.

I do have an unrelated tiny sump gasket leak which means I lose a bit of oil on to the garage floor (well onto a piece of cardboard anyway) but since it's an engine out fix I'm waiting till I have more things to do to the engine before I bother with the gasket.

That's a hell of a recommendation, tough little 'hairdressers' car.
