Admittedly I have thin arms but just taking off the horizontal bar gave sufficient room to get one arm down and place a few fingers on the filter.

Yeah, I'm a member of the 'scrawny arm brigade' too, which is why the removal of a few millimetres of metal makes it possible to get my arm down from behind the Strut Brace. The Brake lines are the real problem though, if they were just a bit further back it would be easy peasy. I'm going to talk to my mechanic about moving the bracket.

Lotus 7 style clubman with Toyota Silvertop 4AGE 20V was the worst I've had to change. Access was so bad had to carefully spear the filter with a long screwdriver & could only turn it 1cm at a time - once off was almost impossible to get the filter out. Getting the new filter in & on was only slightly easier.
