WTD: Gearbox selector failure

Postby manga_blue » Sun Apr 14, 2013 8:26 pm

Just looking at options after this morning's shambles. Advice appreciated for a tastefully modded 5 speed NA8 street/track car.

I've had a gearbox that's been dying slowly - no synchro on 3rd, a bit noisy and a little bit crunchy into 2nd at times. Then this morning the selector mechanism went completely batshit. Couldn't find 3rd at all and going into 4th from anywhere randomly gave me 2nd, 4th or reverse. Flat spotted the rears going into 2nd from 7,500 in 3rd in front of the pits.

I've got a good spare NB8A 5 speed gearbox sitting in the shed but it doesn't have the selector (Change Control System) extension. I'm thinking that my (NA8) selector could easily be FUBAR.

Q1. Do I need an NB selector system or would any NA unit fit onto the NB box?

Q2. Alternatively, are bentish NA8 selector systems usually repairable?

Q3. Does anyone have a good selector system complete?

Q4. What else do I need to now about this?

A tad pedantic, I'd say.

OK then. Gearbox Change Control System failure. I actually wanted people to help me and not themselves anyway.
