Purge Solenoid Valve - Loud Clicking

Postby kenson » Mon Mar 04, 2013 11:42 pm

Hi all,

Car = Mx5 SE

For a few weeks (I don't drive my car often) I've been hearing a clicking noise that's not always on. Sounds like crickets almost. Only really hear it when I'm driving past another car or wall as the sound is reflected. I thought it was the old rock in the tyre but it isn't. And now, I think I've finally found the source!

The purge solenoid valve near the charcoal canister is clicking very loud intermittently. It comes on sometimes when the car is idling in neutral.

Oh, I found a video:

Before I go replace it, can I clean this thing up? I understand what it's doing. But I don't think the SOV (solenoid valve) should be clicking so loud that I can hear it when I'm driving haha

Cheers,

Ken
