FUEL SURGE??

Postby Bathurst00 » Fri Jan 25, 2013 9:57 pm

I gave a NA8 and on high speed left hand corners with halk a tank of fuel I get fuel surge! Obviously on a race track but is there any clues as to what might be happening in my tank??

Maybe it isn't the tank? Fuel rail?

Wow type slower :p

So you are saying that you are getting surgery on left handers on the track.

This is caused by either a dead or dying pump or by an incorrect non factory pickup sock filter. Or incorrect fitment of the oem intake sock filter on the pickup.

Hi Davo,
I have the same issue. Only on left handers, only when at max lateral g's and pretty high revs. It was doing it coming out of Hungry at Lakeside in third, but backing off a bit by running 4th stopped it... Although the advice from others above is the generally accepted solution, it does not seem to be my issue. Still working on this... I have a aftermarket pump, but it has the correct sock, and I have done my best to ensure that it is positioned correctly at the bottom of the tank-and mine will do this on three quarters of a tank, so I'm starting to look at other things- although I'm buggered if I know what yet.

Sorry I'm not giving you a solution- but I will watch to see if someone gets you sorted...
Rich.

I never sorted the surge my last car had before it was destroyed. have you used a fuel flow tester to check if the pump is both providing the pressure and the flow?

It doesnt seem likely the cause but gees who knows. the other thing to consider is an electrical fault that happens due to the inertia, like a loose wire.

Its an annoying thing to deal with I know.

Could be the 'blackwire' issue:

Matty Hall had similar problem, but not sure if he fixed it:
