Washed the engine bay today in my NA and she's inevitably running on three cylinders. Fired up the compressor and pulled the plug leads to blow out any water, then discovered this...

The bottom part is stuck on the plug itself. Anyone got any great ideas on how to remove it beyond a pair of really long nose pliers?

Maybe the tube spanner in the tool kit will fit over the spark plug.

dont use pliers. the plastic is brittle and hence the original cracking. any more force and you have little pieces everywhere inside you spark plug hole.
as above, try and remove the spark plug with all the plastic still attached.

a useful tool are forceps - long thin nose. the other half is probably still intact. If its not assume you could blow the debris out. You can also get a variety of points and hooks etc from any of the auto places. personally I would remove the debris before taking out the plug

Can't get the socket over the plug. The plastic bit is stuck over it.

Squirt WD40 into hole. Allow it to soak and soften/loosen rubber. Get a torch and wire and fish the rubber (bits) out. Blast out dry and clean before removing spark plug. Check top of plug.

Hi.
Once you have removed the plastic ( you may need to obtain a set of long nose pliers- the long ones). Get a vacuum cleaner and a piece of plastic tubing ( you may need several diameters ) Put rag around tubing and put into cleaner nozzle. This should get most of the plastic out. Loosen the plug only and repeat the vacuuming this should get most if not all of the plastic out. Being plastic if a small piece gets into the combustion chamber it should not do any damage.

Would you be able to fix problem by removing the cam cover?

would make the job alot easier. easy just to break it up and vacuum it out them. just adds $30-$80 depending on the cover seal you buy.

For those playing at home; WD40 + extra long nose pliers got it done relatively easily.
Also, turns out two of them were busted.
