3.9 NB torsen into NA6 5sp.. thoughts
hi guys got a good deal on a NB torsen, drive shaft and half shafts. problem is the torsen is a 3.9 and in my 5spd might feel sluggish according to the seller. has anyone done this and what are your thoughts. car is a turbocharged NA6 that will have around 150rwhp.

Re: 3.9 NB torsen into NA6 5sp.. thoughts
Having a 3.9 with the 6 speed where top gear is lower than the 5 speed I can only imagine that 3.9/ 5speed would be slower to accelerate and that it would die on any incline in top. OOps just realised it is turboed!!My mate has a 130RWK 1.6 and still runs the 4.3 but I reckon a 4.1 would be ideal
My advice, sell it and buy a 4.1 unless you have the skills to take the LSD out and put it into your current 4.3.Should be plenty of NB 6speed owners out there looking to buy the 3.9 and make their things go much better.
Good luck.

I would say the 3.9 would be ideal. I know because I had that same combo. Drive it first before you spend more money. Your decision after all but be careful listening to people with little to no experience. Your top end will be scary , assuming you want that sort of thing.

thanks for the reply. 3.9 and the stock 5spd isnt a common combo so its impossible to gauge what the result will be like. research suggests it will drop everything down 400rpms and takes a while to get used to. it's probably good for fuel consumption but not so good for quick launches in an already slow car.

Why not figures out the equivalent gear ratios and see if it's close to just driving around 1 gear taller all the time? If it is, try it out.

I re-read your original post. In my head I read it as having 150rwkw not hp. Would make a difference, so I retract what I said before. My car had 186rwhp and much lighter than your car. It was great with the 3.9 ratio.
Good luck with your search.
