Did you run a magnet in all the crevices and check that it wasn't somehow stuck to the underside of the cover? For the life of me I still couldn't find my 2 missing screws.

Or another thought....

The bolts are only tiny, and therefore rather weak....

it hasn't snapped off inside without the mechanic realising?

I remember when Pam was putting Nanotech's engine together one of those bolts snapped (it snapped before it even reached the correct torque!)
If it has snapped off it's a rather tedious job to get the snapped end out of the head (dremel + small drill bit + steady hand + bolt extractor)

We are taking the cam cover off on Sunday to have a good look and see if its snapped off or come loose, or just left out when putting the engine back together. Ill keep you all posted on the result :?

Ok, so today we took the cam cover off again...............no loose bolt rattling around, no snapped off bolt, thread was fine. So we got another bolt from my spare head and screwed it in, not a problem. Conclusion...............the bolt must have been left out by the mechanic during the rebuild, not happy Jan!

Great that you spotted this & fixed it before it became a problem. Unfortunately it's always worth a quick visual check, where possible, of work carried out.
