Which air conditioning compresser do I need for my NA8

Postby aka_juffa » Thu Dec 13, 2012 11:39 am

Put my early NA8 into a workshop today to check out my non-working air conditioner. Turns out that the compresser needs to be replaced. I was told the compresser is no longer available from Mazda. On top of that I was told that there were two types for the NA8. I have decided to wait until the new year to fix it, but in the mean time does anyone know what compresser I need for my early NA8?

In the mean time I will contact Mazda and AllMaz to see what my options are.

J, fortunately the NA8 used the later R134a refridgerant to the R12 refridgerant used on the NA6, & so the compressor was upgraded as a result.

Thanks Paul. So when the mechanic said two types of compressor sounds like he meant NA6 or NA8......not two types in the NA8. Time to ring Mazda/Allmaz.

Jeff, think so, but it's possible there was a later compressor again in the '96-'97 NA8, although it wasn't for refridgerant compatibility.

Thanks Paul.

Allmaz don't have any at the moment, and waiting for Mulgrave mazda to call me back.

Oh, and as a side note the parts guy at Mulgrave Mazda to me that the air conditioning as installed by Mazda Australia dealers was not sourced from Mazda Japan, but rather an Auto air conditioning company (he wasn't 100% sure who that company is/was).

FWIW, just had a look at an old unserviceable NA6 compressor & it's a Denso R12 type with the id plate at the rear end, i.e. opposite end to the pulley.

I made a list of things that are different between 1st & 2nd gen NA8 (even trivial things) and compressors wasn't on it.
BTW don't ask me for the list as it's buried deep within my other, dead, laptop.

Jeff don't be a such a big-girl's-blouse, just put on a hat and drive faster
