PWR Radiator/Oil Cooler Combo

As previously mentioned I have had a PWR Radiator/Oil Cooler combo, oil thermostat, custom shroud and new fans installed (by MX5 Plus) into my NA in preparation for the engine.

At the moment the second fan (drivers side and oil cooler) only comes on when the air con is on. Whilst the engine has not been pushed yet the plan is to install an over ride switch that can turn the second fan on without having to turn the air con on. Current indications are that when the engine starts to get hot turning the second fan on does have an impact, however no real data yet to 'prove'. Next time I'm on a track I will get some more data on how effective this set up is and will post some more results. The only data I have collected so far is some stop start peak hour traffic (air con was off in the interest of catching some data).

The other suggestion is to remove the air con, however on a recent Darlings Down club run when the air con did not work properly the other half would not be happy with no air con (and neither would I).

Notice the shroud has been folded to allow the fans to draw as much air through as possible.

Data collected during peak hour in Brisbane (Oil temp purple, water temp green, oil pressure black, revs light purple, speed light black). There is a legend in the right hand corner to help.

Note the speed is not being recorded straight away, it is lagging. An ABS sensor from an NB is being used and there maybe too many teeth (44) for the Innovate. An internet search has suggested that only about 4 teeth are needed to record speed so I will need to investigate this further, never the less the speed is accurate once it starts registering. The other issue could be the scale being used to record it again I need to test this further.

What model number is that pwr radiator/oil cooler?
Does it bolt straight up?

Yes it is a straight bolt up to a NA6, however it is a custom order and is not kept on the shelf.

Its the Flyin Miata "twincooler", when I got mine it was cheaper shipped from the US than wholesale price in Oz. :roll:

Also it doesn't have an oil drain hole at the bottom, if you buy one consider getting one welded in before you put it in the car.

What fans are they Magpie? Do you have the specs on them....I assume the move many more CFM of air than the stock ones?

They are SPAL fans, 12" (1225 CFM 140 watt) I think. I will confirm the exact size. SPAL fans can be found here http://datsport.com/spal-fans.html, I'm not sure where MX5 Plus purchased mine from.

me too! (for a standard radiator, no added oil cooler) $750 direct from PWR in Queensland, or $490 from Queensland to the US and from the US back to Sydney, ridiculous!

Don't forget with the oil cooler combo you will need a sandwich plate as well as hoses to plumb everything in and this adds to the cost.
