Car wont start when hot

Postby yuge » Mon Sep 24, 2012 10:29 am

recently the car seems to have trouble starting when its hot.
Mod list for car:
http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=53167&hilit=yuge

Car starts flawlessly in the morning and at night (7pm onwards)

But midday or just after work at 5pm, the car would crank but never fires.
I can always leave the car and come back the next morning and it would start up again asif nothing ever happened.

Also a few times after being stuck in peak hour traffic for a good amount of time. The car would stall and fail to restart until a few hours later.

Does this sound like a CAS issue?

I had this problem on my 323 and it was the cam angle sensor, so you are probably on the right track. Do you have a spare CAS to try?

Mine got real warm at a khana one day and just stalled then wouldn't fire, so mashed the throttle wide open then kicked the starter and it fired.
Can't say it will work on yours as mine is significantly modified down the turbo path, and haven't replaced anything nor seen the problem again since...

I know it doesn't throw much light on the key problem, but it took me some head scratching before I tried the wide open throttle approach, that was a very long ten minutes!
So lets go!

You could check to see if you have spark at the plugs when it won't start to narrow down the cause.
