Could someone please tell me what this is called and where can I get one? (the red arrow, it unscrews from the head)

It doesn't screw out, it is a press fit into the cylinder head. The only place you can get one is from a mazda spare parts outlet.

Don't forget the oil pick up needs to be swapped with the sump also,

The thing that the red arrow points to is the hose connection for the coolant hose to the little oil cooler which forms part of the oil filter mount. Here's the hose itself on an NA8.

Yep I know what it does, the issue is my engine has a double barb like this:

The large barb goes to an oil cooler, and the smaller one goes up to the throttle body/cold start valve (like NA6 setup)

Where as the mx5 has just the small barb going to the oil cooler.

So I wanted to swap the double barb for the single mx5 one. I thought it screwed out, but if its pressed in then I am lost as to how to change.

Hi.
Why dont you just cap the one you will not be using. A rubber cap with a hose clamp the same as the n6 has in the block beside the oil filter.

Yeah just cap it.

On the FWD version, some would go straight to the heater core via a hose. The BPT (from a BG8Z or R Familia) and some n/a Euro/JDM FWD versions it went to a water to oil cooler similar to the NA8 one, then on to the heater core.

yep my engine goes to the oil cooler then back to the heater core.

Is it safe to cap the large one? I assume there is a lot of pressure being pumped through ?

15psi.

get a hose that fits it, and something that fits in the hose and clamp both hard.

ok, I did this today. Found a huge bolt, cut it, wedged it into hose and clamped hose onto larger barb.
It looks so ghetto, please tell me if this was the stupidest idea ever :|
