Engine and gearbox compatibility

Postby 7StringSamurai » Sun Aug 26, 2012 8:13 pm

Gidday forumites,

I'm asking this question on behalf of a friend, who's got a restoration project on the trot... Is it possible to pair the 1.6L NA engine with the 6 speed manual from any of the NBs? If so, what are the concerns and issues that he would need to be aware of?

All thanks in advance.

Yeah all na/nb engines will pair up with any other.

Only thing you need to know is 6 speed 1.6L will not use one of the gearbox bolts, it is fine dont worry about it.

If it's a restoration project he may not want to put in a 6 speed gearbox especially if the 5 speed works well or can be repaired. One of the issues with any restoration or makeover is considering how much to spend and what it's worth at the end. Some drivers prefer the 5 speed and they were fitted to NB P1 as well as NA's.
