Postby speeedy » Fri Jul 27, 2012 7:05 pm

sorry, i know this is gonna sound silly, but ive searched and cant seem to find an easy answer??

Ive got a 1990 roadster with a new engine in it
how do i tell if its a 1.6 or 1.8 engine by looking at it?
ive searched and on pics they both look the same, is there an easy tell?

London to a brick its related to the engine nbr. Check the number / designation and cross check with someone that knows- forum sponsors, Mazda etc. The same question can apply to most engines- the designation of type defines what it is.

1.8 engine numbers begin with BP. 1.6 numbers begin with B6. Engine number is stamped on a horizontal flat section of the block sticking out from behind and below the rearmost pipe of the exhaust manifold.

Haha.

Ok, what colour are the tops of the injectors.
Blue=1.6
Tab=1.8

crank angle sensor on
Right=1.6
Left=1.8

A na6 conversion usually retains all 1.6 electronics.

It's only on the right if your facing forward. Most people look backwards at an engine bay.

NA6 cas in the inlet side. NA8 on the exhaust side

1.6s are pretty 'rev happy'. More than 1.8s.

Hope this helps.

doesn't the 1.8 have raised writing on the cam cover? as opposed to the 1.6 being imprinted.
