Postby CheyneX5 » Sun May 06, 2012 6:15 pm

Hi Guys,

As above, will a NB starter motor go into a NA and is there any benefit?

Cheers.

Thanks for that, is it a direct swap or does it require some modification to fit?

I've no idea but Send Richard at MX-5 Plus an email, but best try calling him on Saturday, as he's experimented with all different combos of starters/GB/flywheels and knows what works with what.

why bother- most of us just repair or buy the right product. What does an NB starter motor do that an NA doesn't?

Might be available for very cheap or free, and it slighter, which wont affect 99.9% of us here but for example would be useful for me.

99.9% of forum members don't care about 0.01% of the weight.

Occupy the starter motor!

It is actually quite a lot lighter, much easier to get hold off, easier to replace, more volumetrically efficient and more aesthetically pleasing.

I wouldn't go out of my to change it, but if it needs replacing then why not.

I got a reply from MX5 Plus. 2 out of 3 bolts line up. It could work i guess but there would be some modification involved. This is for NA8. Not sure about NA6.

Needs late model NA8 or NB8A gearbox to be fitted without modifying.

Fits no problem you just use 2 bolts.... No mods required. Much smaller and lighter and more efficient design.
NC Roadie, NC Racey, ND Racey….and a 30AE

Plus several others in the bone yard...

Thanks guys. I was unaware that the later NA8's had a slightly different Gearbox.
