Me I use a chrome adjustable vacume cleaner tube with rubber caps either end, can fit it anywhere in the engine bay to hold the bonnet up and just collaspe it and stick it next to the passangers set when not in use , doesn't look to bad either.

Just for completeness of the thread - I went ahead and ordered some bonnet struts from RSPeed. Picked up some wipers as well. Nothing else really appealed to me sadly.
