If it doesn't turn out to be clutch related, have a look at your PPF - Hammer had a similar issue on his SP which was a cracked PPF.

What's a PPF?
I'm leaning towards doing an upgrade now because of this. If the thing has to be taken apart anyway, I may as well get a new clutch and flywheel put in. Now it's just a matter of finding the right bits.

Power Plant Frame. Joins the gearbox and diff.

Interesting. My Cusco diff is still incredibly clunky and certaintly still causes some shunting when not appropriately oiled on first start up. I'll keep it in mind for something to be aware of.
The more I think about it, the more I think it's clutch related. Whilst standing on the brakes and letting out the clutch slowly, the squeal/squeak/creak comes on slowly, and if you hold it at a certain point, it has a certain frequency to it. As you let it out more and more, the frequency increases until it suddenly disappears, which is essentially when the clutch engages properly. Although I'm not sure what the specific part is, the issue certaintly sounds clutch related.

The spigot bearing sits in the centre of the flywheel and the gearbox input shaft sits in it. The bearings in the NA/NB seem to seize up after many years - around the time the clutch would be worn out.

agree sounds like a bearing. If you go to a clutch repairer - someone who knows clutches they will probably diagnose it very quickly and at no cost.

Diagnosis is one thing. It'll still cost money to fix it, so I may as well do the upgrade. Just need to make sure of the issue first. Hopefully I'll get a bit more info at the club track day on Monday.
