Using a standalone as a piggyback means it is not a standalone.
Zombie is using the Adaptronic e420c to control fuel and ignition, the std ECU does everything else.
I'm using the Xede for fuel and ignition and will also have water/meth injection after the CW is installed.
Plus for the Xede is the ability to switch between maps on the fly. I'll have the safe touring tune and the more aggressive track one available with the flick of a switch.

And Dann, more NC owners don't do it because the std ECU is very capable and will tune itself to headers and exhaust with no problems at all (ask CB) however there is more power available if you are prepared to spend the close to $1000 for the piggyback, a couple of hundred for install plus dyno time to get it tuned.
The base map that I got from Begi for a header/muffler is very close and the car ran exceptionally well without any fiddle.... I'll be using their CW map as a basis later.

Hi guys, I'm on annual leave next week so when I get some time I'll explain what issues exist with flash tuning NC's and the available performance benefits of fitting an aftermarket piggy-back computer without internal engine modifications.

I have been documenting and benchmarking NC performance gains via various modifications for the past 2 years.

Cheers,
Danny

Just read this and thought it might be of interest to NC owners ...

Michael Hall and Chris Gough team up in one of two new-generation Mazda MX5s competing in this year’s Wakefield 300.

According to Hall, the development of the car’s ECU has been instrumental in improving its performance.

“We’ve cracked the factory ECU, and we can now tune the engine,” he said. “It’s the first time anyone has been able to modify the ECU for racing, which opens the way for more of the new-generation MX5s to come and race in the future.”

Hall’s team-mate will be Chris Gough, who is highly regarded as a preparer of Mazda MX5s for both circuit racing and tarmac rally events.

The team’s goal is to finish in the top-10 and it is an achievable objective, although the depth of the competition will make it a challenge.
