Awesome, thanks guys! there's hope for me yet! How can I tell if it's on compression stroke?

Watch the valves, intakes open as piston goes down, they close as piston comes up on compression stroke to TDC. Think of the four strokes of the cycle - intake - compression - (ignition) -combustion/expansion - exhaust. You want the ignition point for No 1 cylinder, the one closest to the front.

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Think I've got it now. I set everything as TDC (the cams were what I was confused with but then realised the pulley locator pins needs to be TDC)

Fixed. Thanks for all your help:)
Green machine, with the piston at top dead centre, as soon as it goes down the inlet valve should start opening yeh? Then the rest of the sequence follows providing the cams, crank, pulleys and belt are all set right yeh?
If either cam was a belt tooth out would it still run? Reason being is I had to remove the cas limiting bolt to rotate it a further 25deg to get the timing right... It runs fine though:/

If it runs fine, it must be right, or pretty close. What you have described is the start of the intake stroke - remember there are two TDCs, one at the end of exhaust/start of intake, the other at the top of compression/start of expansion. The point of the exercise is to synchronise the crank with the cams. However you have now added another variable by changing the CAS positioning.
Engines can run in the most surprising circumstances, but usually not well, they might be sluggish, produce no power, ping a lot, etc etc.
Having to make that change to the CAS suggests something was/is wrong about your setup, it might be worth going back to the start of the timing setup process and double-checking that everything is aligned properly. Alternatively, if the car is running well enough, take it to a mechanic for a check.

Re: Car won't start after engine swap. Urgent!
Problem solved! I had the cas upside down! There is a threaded hole 150 deg out on the opposite side.. Face palm, no research in the world could help me there lol, I only worked it out by looking at another na8.
So if the plug for your cas is on the bottom, it's the wrong way
