NA6 Troubles

Postby emily_mx5 » Wed Jan 25, 2012 10:26 pm

Hi all, I am really hoping you can help me out here.
I have been having a few troubles with my NA6 (eunos)
I'm having trouble starting it when cold, engine cranks normally but does not fire.
Takes about 10 seconds of cranking to start up (of which I split into 3 tries)
When it does start it seems quite spluttery and bad and will stall sometimes unless i blip the throttle to bring revs up.
Once running the car is fine, and I have had no issues except for the revs drop occasionally when coming to a stop, even if the car is in neutral. I have adjusted the idle speed by bridging the diagnostics box as m.net explains, which fixed this problem 95% of the time.
2 days ago I put brand new spark plugs and brand new leads on. It made no difference to difficult starting.
Today I borrowed a friends AFM, as mine has OBVIOUSLY been tampered with, the silicone seal is lumpy and dodgy as hell.
With the new AFM the throttle response is RUBBISH, very slow/slack and idle keeps dropping to like 500.
Please please please suggest anything that I could check/replace, all advice would be much appreciated :)
Emily

If another properly working AFM makes the car run poorly, and yours has been tampered with, that would suggest thatsomething ELSE on the car has been tampered with to go with the tampered AFM.... Anything like dodgy resistor packs on the coolant temp sensors or anything?

Are you sure the idle control valve works properly?
