would the MX5 + or Roadster Q sports exhausts be regarded as "performance enhancing" modifications?

Probably. If it's not the standard exhaust and is any different in terms of pipe diameter or restriction, then it would be regarded as a modification.

not long ago I benchmarked my insurance and one of the large insurers would not quote when I remarked the car had a sports muffler.
