Toyota Coil Over Plug Ignition Results

when i can get near a computer rather than my phone, ill post all the photos. I actually used only the toyota loom with no extending wires or anything, just pulled it totally apart, followed the wires i needed, then cut them all the way back at the computer plugs.

To answer your question though, yeah I gutted the igniter, the best part about this is that I can plug my cops onto ANY 1.6 setup to show people the difference on their own car, in under 2 minutes. I even used the stock toyota loom holding clips and it looks great.

I'd like to gut a ignitor but I'd like to have a spare in case I need to run the old system. People seem to want a significant amount of money for them though!

When moving from the puny OEM coil packs to the Toyota COPs, does the more complete combustion lean out the mixture and require any subtle fattening of the fuel table to compensate? (assuming aftermarket ecu)

(Apologies for the same posting in two threads, but wasnt sure which one was best.)

I have not had to change my WOT map, but idle and cruise needed a small amount of change, was not so far out that it would cause an issue though.

Good to know, as I am doing a COPs conversion this weekend on my track car and WOT is all I really care about, so sounds like it wont need a tune before the coming weekend..

well, chalk up another successfull COPs conversion.

After giving up trying to find a matching connector, I ended up just cutting off the connectors to the coil pack and wired up a new plug onto the factory harness to plug my COPs harness into. (I can always make a patch harness with the same connector to mate to the coil packs if needed)

Wired it up, turned the key and it fired first time.. phew...

So, just have to mount them properly so they dont fall out (currently just sitting in there) and tidy up the wiring properly and I can kiss those crappy OEM coil packs goodbye....

I'll post some pics when I'm done...

Wiring was dead easy. Took power, ground and 2-3 trigger from one coil pack connector feed, and 1-4 trigger from other to connect to the four wires in COPs harness.
Extra ground wire from COPs onto rocker cover.

Just made up a quick & dirty hold down plate using 25mm aluminium from Bunnings.
Will probably change this to a under-COP mounting so can take out one plug at a time without having to unbolt all of them, or needing to loosen the rocker cover bolts each time..
