Engine drama - Stuttering under throttle - Oil pressure
Hey all, I drove the car the normal 25km to work but put the car under more stress than normal IE hard on the accelerator.
Now i have developed a problem, my car has issues developing power between the 2000 to 4500 rpm range, stuttering as it increases.
My oil pressure has increased, and i'm about to go check my dipstick and read the levels.. I am afraid to drive it, and i have dríven it gentle to my girlfriends which is approx 4 km from work to check it out first before attempting to limp home.
It could be a coilpack issue that the other topic is discussing, but i believe the oil pressure wouldn't increase as a side effect..so i'm left wondering.
Mania wasn't answering calls today as it was prob closed, idle is fine at 900rpm when warmed up and the car is fine if im gentle on the throttle.
I'm no mechanic, and i dont here a misfire, but maybe i'm not getting the whole stroke. ??
Any ideas, gladly appreicated.
regards Hayden

Where's Bruce? ok I'll it say: 'plug leads', if you haven't found anything to be a miss after checking the oil.

Oil turned up fine, I will check plug leads tomorrow.. then coil pack arkk could get expensive.
If i clean the plug leads with my air compressor could i do more harm than good? I'll try and figure it out tomorrow.. last thing i need after a solid week.

The usual problem with MX5 leads is that they deteriorate fairly quickly to the point where one or more's conductivity is affected. Doubt cleaning the ends with an air hose will help.
As you say, if not leads, could be the coilpack - on my old NA6 the inside of one or more of the coil posts, which the plugs leads fit onto, had deteriorated. 2nd hand one for NA6 about 10 years ago was $200, but should be cheaper now as a new one can be had for the same price:

sounds like leads to me. probably a pin hole in the solid section that goes between the camshafts. spark jumps to head instead of to plug when under heavy load.

If plug leads are arcing to camshaft cover enough it may be visible parked with the bonnet up at night with a few revs, but if it only happens under load then it may not be visible.

Hey Mate
I could send you a Coilpack and leads that work if you want to try that?
If it works you could give me $100 for it if you wanted?, if it doesnt, send it right on back.
There just sitting around the garage.
Might help fix the issue for without forking out bucks for Maybes??

Only when engine warmed up or all the time? Coil packs are usually more pronounced with a bit of heat. Otherwise I would agree with the leads comments.
LoL race you to see who can fix their car first.
