The idea that OEM is a compromise is really quite simple.
Take the suspension/handling of an MX5.
OEM is a compromise between all out handling and ride quality.
Those willing to sacrifice a little ride comfort can get vastly improved handling and many are just not prepared to make that sacrifice so the manufacturer has compromised to sell more cars.
The exhaust system is exactly the same.
My NC make a lot more power now than it did with the std exhaust system but it's noisier...some wouldn't like that
OEM tyres are another, they are chosen to compromise between ride comfort, road noise and grip levels....there are noisier, harder riding better gripping tyres available.
